National

(2016). Alumni Making a Difference Award. Given by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work to a PhD alum for is making a difference is his/her field.

(2012). Selected to be an “expert gerontology education consultant” by the Council on Social Work Education’s National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education.

(2011). Outstanding Principal Investigator in Aging Award (New York Academy of Medicine/Social Work Leadership Initiative, national award). Given to a HPPAE participant who has advanced aging through research, through community service, through strengthening university-community ties, through securing institutional and financial support for aging.

(2005). Selected to be an “expert trainer” by the Council on Social Work Education’s National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education.

(2004-05). One of 15 participants chosen nationally for the First Annual Institute on Aging and Social Work. The program is sponsored by the National Institute on Aging and provides advanced training in aging research to social work faculty.

University/State

(2021). West Virginia University Faculty Award for Excellence in Community Engagement. This award recognizes a commitment to community engagement, values reciprocal relationships with the community and inspires those around them to make a positive community impact.

(2020). 2020 WVU Faculty Digital Learning Award. The award recognizes excellence and innovation in digital learning across campuses.

(2017).  2017 West Virginia University Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award.  Honors exceptional professors who go above and beyond to inspire their students

(2016). 2016-17 Eberly College Award for Outstanding Teaching. Awarded for excellent and innovative teaching at West Virginia University.

(2016). Faculty Associate. WVU Teaching and Learning Commons. Selected to partner with the Teaching & Learning Commons by offering relevant workshops and courses that meet faculty and graduate student needs.

(2013). David Z. Morgan Award for Excellence in Geriatric Education. The WV Geriatric Education Center and WV Geriatrics Society presents the David Z. Morgan Award in recognition of exceptional leadership and devoted service to geriatrics education in WV.

(2012). Judith Gold Stitzel Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Women’s Studies. WVU Center for Women’s Studies. Award and grant ($3000).

(2011). David K. Brown Scholar Award. (WV Geriatric Education Center state award/ funded by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health
Resources and Services Administration- HRSA, $1000). Mentored, advanced training program in geriatrics.

(2002). Courage in the Face of Alzheimer’s photograph received second place in the Diversity Week Photo Contest sponsored by the WVU President’s Office on Social Justice.
